NEWS: The CityHippy Week

Ladies & Gentleman, it's Friday night! Welcome to...

The CityHippy Week!

STORY OF THE WEEK: WWF releases report concluding that the energy gap is a nuclear myth
The UK can meet its future energy needs and reduce climate polluting emissions without resorting to new nuclear power, according to a new report commissioned by WWF.
Could not agree more. Nuclear will be too late, too toxic and too dangerous!

What else caught my little green eye?

Rise of political shopping
A survey published this week by American Express will show that people are less inclined to believe government will solve problems they view as pressing. Instead it seems they are taking matters into their own hands through what they buy.

They are taking a greater interest in public issues and using spending power to score political points – deciding which brands they buy or leave on the shelf based on their social, ethical, environmental and civic values.
Amen. Vote with your note! Give your money to people you believe in.

Webby activism nominees & winners

Just wanted to big up those folks in the Activism category in this years Webby awards. Worth a look folks. They do good work.

Youthink! - WEBBY AWARD WINNER
'Feed Me Better' campaign for healthier school meals - PEOPLE'S VOICE WINNER
Help Your Community.org
Remember Segregation
The Global Fund

Worth checking all the nominees and winners though as there are loads of other great green sites in their I am sure you will enjoy.

Nine young Climate Change Champions for England unveiled
Environment Secretary David Miliband said he was delighted with the high calibre of the winners entries: "Clearly these youngsters have put in a tremendous amount of effort in learning more about climate change. They understand that tackling climate change is the largest single environmental issue that we all face in this generation."
More than can be said for the government itself perhaps?

Thames water waterwise
I would love to discuss the tips they offer with you about water efficiency...but the site is down. [Cynical mode engaged] Sigh! [Cynical mode disengaged]

…and that's the way it is folks!

Namaste

Al
